I know I have been neglecting my blog this past week or so...life is crazy hectic! We leave for California in less than a week! I'm doing my best to get all my loose ends tied up before we go. I've been shooting like crazy too! Today I had an amazing newborn session. One of the best  things about what I do is that I get to see families grow up together. I love this particular family! They have 2 incredible little boys who I have been photographing for about 4 years and now, finally, a little baby girl! I have two boys as well and when Terra told me she was having a little girl, we both were like, I'll believe that when I see it! Well, here she is!

blog_5245.jpgIsn't her little dress just too much?! My friend, Seanna (her company is Ivy & Holland), made this amazing little creation. Don't you love it? Well, good news for you! This fall, I am going to be opening up a new retail area in my studio and Seanna's gorgeous creations will be part of the fun. We will also be selling fun camera straps, camera and lens bags, small frames, custom cards and other unique local craft items. If you know of any local crafters who have interesting things to sell, please send them my way!

Hope you guys all have a great holiday weekend! I'd love to see your favorite shots this Friday. Leave links to your images, blogs, flickr, etc. in the comments section below or submit your images to my Favorite Shot Friday pool on Flickr.

I had so much fun photographing these 4 kids! I love this shot! When I showed these images to Mom, she smiled and told me that these two have always had a special bond. I thought I saw that when I shot it and it was nice to know that I did, indeed, capture that special moment. That is one of my favorite things about what I do. When I catch those elusive and special moments it makes it even more special.

I photographed this sweet little babe a few days ago. He made us work for this shot! This little guy just couldn't quite fall all the way asleep, at least not very easily. I think it took me and his Mom about an hour to finally get him completely asleep! Ah, but wasn't it worth it? Sweet little face isn't it?

Today I really have 2 favorite shots and I'll explain why. His Mom and I worked hard for the next 2 hours keeping him relaxed and getting all the shots we wanted. We ended up with a lot of laundry too. His pacifier must have been washed 10 times (kept popping out and falling on the ground). I even began to doubt my baby calming skills! Finally, when it was all done, she picks him up and takes him over to my couch to change his diaper for the ride home. She sets him down, turns to get the diaper bag and when she turns back this is what she saw...

FSF_2447.jpgWhat a little stinker right?! We both cracked up. These little guys do keep you on your toes. Happy Friday everyone. I hope you all get some hard earned sleep this weekend too!

My work is all about milestones in people's lives. It's one of the things that make the work that I do so special to me. Recently I have started shooting high school seniors and I am loving it (this image is from a recent senior session). I used to teach high school so I feel connected to that age group already. They are at such a cool and scary time in their life. It's half amazing, hopeful and ready to conquer the world while the other half is scared, nervous and uncertain. My job is to make amazing images that capture the spirit of the age and give Mom and Dad something they can hold on to. in most cases, their child is heading out into the big, scary world to make their way and may never live under their roof again. Before I know it, it'll be me sitting in that hot seat watching my boys pack up and set off.

I remember the day that I packed my car with all my belongings, my scruffy dog and $1000 and headed to CA. I'll never forget the look in my Dad's teary eyes. It was everything from terror to pride. I didn't get that look back then but boy do I get it now.

What about you my friends? Any favorite shots today? Leave links to your images, Flickr, blogs, etc in the comments section below or add your images to our Favorite Shot Friday Flickr pool.

Happy weekend!

One of the very best parts of my job is getting to watch couples become parents and babies become toddlers. In the case of these two lovely people I am getting to see both. I met Shenequa and Derek when they were about to have Preston. Their maternity session was so much fun because they are so much fun. They joked around, laughed, cuddled up and gave me lots of amazing smiles. That's just who they are together and it was a great session. Since then I have photographed Preston 4 times. This last session was sweet like all the ones before. Look at him now, he's grown so much!

I love this image because of the way he's looking up at them and how they are holding him up. I love his little toes! When I look at this image I just think of family. It's just one of the very best things we do as people. Our children are our best and brightest hopes all rolled into one little person. It makes me think of this quote: "Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body" (Elizabeth Stone).

There is another quote (one of my favorites too!) but I can't find the exact wording. I have been searching for it online now for way too long so you'll get my (probably incorrect) version. It goes something like this, Family is like the giant redwoods, shading the tiny trees at their feet. I think it's by Maya Angelou. Preston is definitely the little redwood in this family- being carefully shaded by Shenequa and Derek.

So, how about you? Any favorite shots this Friday? As always, please leave links to your favorite images in the comments section below or submit their to my Favorite Shot Friday Flickr pool. Don't be shy!

By the way, for all of you Moms-to-be and new Moms out there, Shenequa has an amazing company called, Premier Baby Planning. If you need help getting organized, planning for your new baby and so much more, she's the one to call!

Claudia Eubanks says: I decided to branch outside of my comfort zone and take a few flower pics. There was a hydrangea bush calling out my name at my mom's house. This is the outcome. http://www.flickr.com/photos/czeubanks/4640248130/in/pool-favoriteshotfriday Turned out to be my favorite shot of the week. (05.29.10 @ 01:55 AM)
