We're back from our summer trip. The kids are getting used to being back in school and I'm getting used to being back at work. My first 2 weeks back after vacation are always packed with maternity and newborn sessions. This little girl was my first session of the week. Isn't she sweet? Photographing her was a nice welcome back.

Claudia Eubanks says: Nice to have you back in town, Farrah, although I will miss your gorgeous vacation photos. This is a photo I took on Friday. She was the most patient, compliant little model ever! So cute. http://www.flickr.com/photos/czeubanks/4894092174/in/pool-1276747@N20/ (08.19.10 @ 04:53 PM)

I am really going to miss the fog. Tomorrow morning we hop on a plane back to Texas and away from the incredible San Francisco fog. I know, for some, the fog can be gloomy. For me, it is dramatic. It comes and goes. When it goes away you appreciate the sun all that much more. When it slowly rolls in and engulfs the entire Golden Gate Bridge, I stop and appreciate the amazing power of Mother Nature.

When the fog is particularly dense and low you can feel it hit your face like a cool mist. It changes every day and changes throughout the day. It reminds me every day that I am absolutely not in charge. It gives you another reason to stop, look up at the sky a few times a day and appreciate the magnificence of our planet.

Friday got away from me. My weekly fave shot entry is one of my favorite posts so I had to still share even if it is a day late. This is my lovely friend Jenny.

Photographed near by the Cliffhouse in San Francisco hours before she hopped a flight back to Houston.

What about you guys? Any favorite shots? Post links to your images in the comments section below or add them to my Favorite Shot Friday Pool on Flickr.

I am a huge fan of the self portrait shot. I love the reflection shot, the feet shot and even the holding the camera away and shooting back at yourself shot. Sure, everyone does them and there's nothing new to it but that's part of what I love about it. I've been doing those same shots since I first picked up a camera back in 1984. One of my favorite things about those shots is the "I was here" element. You know like the common graffiti scrawled on the side of something proclaiming that so and so has "been here"? It's like that. I was here- looking, capturing, investigating...just me and my camera (kind of like it was for so long before there was a Steven, Sayer and Finn). Now, I may have a mini entourage in tow but it's still like that lone photo moment.

blog_5692.jpgJust for fun, here are a few other random shots from the week...it's just so hard to pick just one!

I love this shot because it makes me think of my friends, Danielle and Peter.  This is a shot of their kitchen window. Peter commutes to work from Fairfax to SF (about 20+ miles) by bike! I love that he does that and I love how much he loves it! Like Danielle says, "It's good for him". I so wish I lived in a town that was bike friendly and allowed me to ride to work now and then.

How beautiful to have apples growing in your own backyard! When I lived in LA, I had lemons in my backyard.  Amazing!

It's going to be hard to adhere to the one shot per Friday rule when I have days like I did today. Today was our first full day in San Francisco and it was an amazing day! We had so much fun together. So, there's simply no way I can boil today down to one shot.

The day started out perfectly with me getting a great run in- no humidity, cool weather and hills are FUN! Then we found the children's park in Golden Gate Park. I can't look at that picture of Sayer sliding without smiling.

SF_SB_4.jpg
The only way we were able to get our kids away from there was to tempt them with chocolate shakes at Mel's Drive In. Sayer decided we had to play a round of truth or dare (not sure where he learned that but ok). Everyone chose truth for the most part and the questions and answers were hilarious. I love the two pictures of the boys because those smiles are the authentic, real deal, truly "them" expressions.

We headed down to the Wharf where they got to dip their toes in the bay. It was so funny...I told them how cold the water was and so they literally crept up to it barely sticking their fingers in.

blog_5565.jpg
Off topic but...As you may know, SF is cold in the summer. As in the lows are in the 50's and the highs in the 60's. So, you can imagine how cold the water is right? Well, out there by the boats in the above picture, there were people SWIMMING! They were not in wetsuits either, they were in regular bathing suits! They were training swimming not just frolicking. No, they were doing the freestyle stroke waaaaay out there. BRRRRR! That puts all my triathlon training to shame! But, I digress...

The boys got used to the water and before long had their pants rolled up and the shoes off.

Next up, we went to Hyde St. Pier. The boys had so much fun playing on the boats! They were captains and pirates and we were everything from first mates to prisoners. Again, we had to lure them away with the promise of chocolate at Ghirardeli Square.

Blog_ships.jpg
Up on top of one of the ships, we got to see this HUGE freight ship coming in. It was so big that it completely covered up the island of Alcatraz. In this picture, the island is behind the ship. Each of the containers that you see on the ship was the size of a train car! We were all fixated watching it and there was a second one just like it right behind it.

We did finally entice them away with the promise of chocolate (we drank coffee). They finished off their whirlwind day with a soak in the rooftop hot tub back at the house. By the time bedtime rolled around they were out like lights.

I know, to some, our July trip seems crazy. 30 days away?! It takes a ton of planning and we sacrifice lots of small trips in exchange for one longer trip. It's hard for Steven and I to be away from our businesses for so long but, it's days like today that make it all worthwhile! On that note, here's one more collage from today.

Happy weekend my friends!
